Well, my plans for Wednesday night didn’t work out as well as I had hoped. I wanted to check out The xx right after I filed my review of Mumford & Sons at Rexall Place … but thanks to a few computer glitches, I only ended up getting to the Shaw Conference Centre in time for the two-song encore.
(Thankfully, I saw The xx’s full set at Coachella in April.)
So, I can’t offer my take on the dream-pop trio’s first visit to Edmonton — except that their music and lights felt constricted by the low-ish ceilings at the Shaw. (I never thought I’d say this, but The xx is best suited for the outdoors.)
Here are tweets from some of the 3,000 fans who were in the crowd:

And then… And then… Oliver and Romy held hands as they left the stage. Legit screaming.—

This had the intense lighting of NIN's Lights in the Sky tour without the drawback of a set full of modern Nine Inch Nails songs.—

@RennyWilson the girls are screaming, so they must be doing something right.—

My face is shaking from the bass and I can't decipher a word. This is pretty much what everyone expected from this venue.—
