* Avenged Sevenfold will headline this year’s Thaw at the Shaw on Thursday, April 17. (Shaw as in Conference Centre, in case you’re new to Edmonton.) The rockers will be joined by Hellyeah and yet-to-be-named guests. Tickets are $52.50 plus service charges. On sale: Friday at Ticketmaster.
Avenged Sevenfold’s latest single and tour are appropriately titled for helping Edmonton melt after a long winter — Shepherd of Fire. Thaw at the Shaw is presented by The Bear 100.3 FM.
* Twenty years of Collective Soul? Seems like only yesterday we were grumbling about their blandness next to such grunge greats as Nirvana and Mudhoney.
The Soulsters are shining a light on their two decades with a new album, lead guitarist and tour — which stops at The Ranch Roadhouse on Thursday, April 10.
Tickets are $49.95 plus service charges via Ticketweb.
The Georgia rockers released their debut, Hints Allegations and Things Left Unsaid, on Atlantic Records in 1994. Truth be told, the album was first issued on an indie label a year earlier, but when the first single, Shine, started picking up steam, Atlantic decided to sign frontman Ed Roland and his bandmates. Collective Soul will be releasing its ninth album, See What We Started, this summer — without longtime lead guitarist Joel Kosche. He left in January; Jesse Triplett is taking his place.
* Remember Pink’s opening act? The Australian guys with the didgeridoo? The Kin is heading back to Edmonton — for a much more intimate show at The Starlite Room. Wednesday, April 2 is the date. Tickets are $15 plus service charges. On sale: Saturday, Feb. 22 at Ticketfly.
